Located in Tarrant County, River Oaks is a community of approximately 7,000 residents. It is located in a naturally wooded area defined by the west fork of the Trinity River downstream from Lake Worth. James Ventioner, the first settler, built a log cabin in the area in 1849, eventually donating land for a school. When River Oaks was finally incorporated as a village in 1941, it was named for the oak trees in the area.
