The majority of homes in America are heated with a forced-air furnace, most commonly fueled by natural gas but also by electricity, liquid propane, or fuel oil.

How a Furnace Works
Furnaces draw air inside a heat exchanger, warm it with a flame of natural gas, propane or fuel oil, or with heated electric coils, and pass it to a blower that sends the warmed air through the house via metal ducts. The air enters the room through registers or grills in the floor or wall. Indoor air is circulated continuously through the system to recondition it, so a furnace filter is used to contain dust, pollen and other airborne particles.
Older homes could have boilers, fueled by natural gas, liquid propane or fuel oil. A boiler heats water and circulates it through pipes to radiators, where the hot water warms the surrounding air. Unlike a furnace, a boiler doesn’t circulate air through the house, meaning the air in a boiler-heated house could seem stuffier to occupants.
Heat Pumps
Heat pumps are energy efficient heating and air conditioning appliances that use the natural heat and energy of outdoor air or shallow ground to heat and cool the home. In winter, heat is taken from the outside source and drawn into the home to warm the space, while heat is extracted from the home into the ground or air outside during the summer. This uses the natural properties of refrigerants rather than converting electricity and other fuel into energy.
Ductwork
The air ducts in your home or office are the system through which heat is distributed, and Metro Energy Savers knows indoor air quality is important for excellent health. Dirty ducts are full of contaminants, pollutants, and other irritants. Our technicians are skilled in air duct cleaning and repair and replacement of all aspects of home and commercial heating systems. Call today to have Metro Energy Savers assess your heating system for needed repairs and maintenance or if you are considering installation of a new heating system.
